Question: Why should I hire a CPA over a tax preparation chain like H&R Block or Liberty Tax?

Answer:  CPAs have a high level of education, pass a rigorous exam, and are licensed with the State of Washington.  Most chain preparers hire seasonal employees who take a two week tax course that teaches them how to use Turbo Tax or other software.  They often do not have a deeper expertise in tax issues and planning to minimize tax.  While a certain national chain advertises that it completes more complex returns than anyone else, this company certainly does not define what “complex” means and does not say they complete them correctly.  We have fixed plenty of returns that were prepared incorrectly by unqualified tax preparers.

Question:  Does it cost more for a CPA to do my taxes?

Answer:   Often our prices to prepare a return are very comparable to a national chain.  However, when you consider the things that are missed by a national chain, using tax software (which you can buy yourself) to guide them through the questions, you may miss opportunities to save money through planning.  What is the cost of missed deductions or failure to plan to minimize taxes in the future? Tax preparers who know how to use software but do not know the Internal Revenue Code will miss deductions; never underestimate the value of a CPA.  As part of your first visit we will review your prior year return and look for opportunities for missed deductions.  If we find mistakes, we can help you file an amended return and get a bigger refund.

Question: How do I know if your firm is the right fit for me?

Answer:  We are willing to invest the time with a free consultation.  If your tax or accounting issues are simple enough for you to do yourself, we will tell you how to do it. We want to add value to you and your business. We give you the opportunity to get to know us and you can determine if it is a good fit.

 Question:  Do you send a bill every time I call and ask a question?

Answer:  No.  We will advise you before we start a project and what an anticipated fee may be.  If you have a quick question we generally will not send a bill.  By doing this we encourage our clients to talk to us on a regular basis without the worry of a fee.
